JA Brides: Style Me Pretty Winner Amanda

Jul 10, 2014

While we love our brides at every stage in their process, usually, we only get to hang pre-wedding. So, we get very excited when our lovelies check back in with us after the big day to share photos, stories and let us bask in the glow of their newlywed bliss. And we have definitely been basking today, courtesy of JA bride, Amanda, the winner of one of our Style Me Pretty Contests! The new Mrs. sent us these lovely photos from her wedding and answered all our questions from first date to “I Do.”

IN THE BEGINNING: What started out as a first date at the local ice cream parlor, led to a Central Park proposal for high school sweethearts, Scott and Amanda. A southern gentleman through and through, Scott took Amanda’s father out to dinner first to ask for her hand. It was just right!

Tell us about the wedding venue: We decided to get married at the TPC Sawgrass in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida. We are from Massachusetts, so this was a destination wedding for us. We put a lot of thought into how we wanted to get married. I had initially wanted to elope- I was unsure about having all the attention on me, how much having a traditional wedding would cost and I felt that traveling would be fun. Scott couldn't imagine not having our family and friends with us. We felt that having a destination wedding with our closest family and friends would be perfect for both of us (and it was!). We landed on the TPC Sawgrass because Scott is a huge golfer and Florida was an easy travel destination.

We had 88 family members and friends come down to Florida for an extended weekend. We all went to the beach, pool, had meals together and celebrated together. The whole weekend feels like a blur of the most fun we've ever had. It was unforgettable as a whole. One of Scott's best men said that he was in wedding withdrawal when he got back and I fully agreed.

How did you chose the color palette for your wedding?: I took full advantage of my time as a bride-to-be and looked through lots of magazines and blogs. I ended up loving the romantic look of blush pink and white colors with peonies and roses for flowers. After being so attached to the idea of having gorgeous peonies- my florist was unable to get peonies one week prior to the wedding. She used garden roses, roses and ranunculus and I couldn't have been happier.

Any advice for those going through the wedding planning process? I was stressed at times, especially in the beginning thinking about the logistics of everything. Overall, though, I loved the experience. My advice is to soak it all in and to have a fun time with planning! In the end, there will be things that don't go as planned (like my flowers), but if you take them in stride and laugh them off, it'll be okay. In the end, I married my husband and that's all that matters. You may miss the planning when it's gone!

Things you’ve learned since getting married/ anything that’s changed? I've learned how to relax again! We got engaged, bought a house, moved in together for the first time, planned a wedding, I worked a lot of overtime and Scott is in graduate school as well as a full time job. Once the wedding was over and I was done working overtime, I don't think I remembered how to relax. It's been nice to sit down and read a book, go to the beach, etc. We're enjoying being newlyweds. Otherwise as a couple, it was more of a change living together than getting married.
